My practice focuses on capturing the life and individuality of a person. My fascination with portraiture has led me to focus on how a fabricated face can possess life, as though it has a presence in the room. The intention of my work is to engage with a portrait and study the details of the face in an attempt to feel closer to the person and create a depiction of their character.
I gain inspiration from artists such as Chuck Close, Gustav Klimt and Alphonse Mucha due to the attention to detail and delicate nature of their work. I mostly draw, paint and also experiment with printmaking; by using these mediums I work closely with mark-making, using a hands-on approach to create portraits. I enjoy seeing my work come to life in front of me which makes it more personal and helps me connect with the portrait.

This piece is inspired by the love story in 'Mother Night' between the main protagonist and his wife; their relationship is described as a 'nation of two' in which they belong in their own world away from any interference. These two portraits represent the inseparability and strength between a couple who have spent a lifetime together and show the secure bond that exists between them.
